Last night on May 14,  American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey released a new song called “Coachella – Woodstock In My Mind.” It is the third offering from the artist’s upcoming record, Lust for Life, following singles “Love” and “Lust for Life” (ft. The Weeknd).

Written by Del Rey and produced with frequent collaborators Rick Nowels and Kieron Menzies (who produced all of Del Rey’s last album, 2015’s “Honeymoon”), the song is similar sonically to Del Rey’s previous releases. However, the similarities are limited to sound alone as for the first time Del Rey injects politics into the song’s lyrics – with lines like “In the next morning, they put out the warning/tensions were rising over country lines.”

Apparently inspired by increasingly strained relations between North Korea and the United States, Del Rey wrote in an Instagram post on April 17 about  the song, “I’m not gonna lie – I had complex feelings about spending the weekend dancing [at Coachella] whilst watching tensions with North Korea mount.”

She wrote“I find It’s a tightrope between being vigilantly observant of everything going on in the world and also having enough space and time to appreciate God’s good earth the way it was intended to be appreciated. On my way home I found myself compelled to visit an old favorite place of mine … and write a little song. I just wanted to share this in hopes that one individual’s hope and prayer for peace might contribute to the possibility of it in the long run.”

Now that the song is finished, Del Rey wrote, “What a blessing it is to put songs out about things that move me in real time.” These statements align with those made in an earlier press release about Del Rey’s album being “more socially aware” than her previous records. This song continues to amplify anticipation for Del Rey’s upcoming record, which is out on Interscope and Polydor, according to Del Rey, “very soon.”
